Transportation: SDOT states "Safer streets are coming to Maple Leaf and Northgate" in 2027 along Roosevelt Way NE & Pinehurst Way NE

First announced on August 12th, 2026, the Seattle Department of Transportation has shared its planned construction as part of road improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians who use Roosevelt Way NE and Pinehurst WA NE. 

Shared on the "Roosevelt and Pinehurst Way NE Paving & Safety Project" page SDOT states:  

The Roosevelt and Pinehurst Way NE Paving & Safety Project will repave Roosevelt Way NE and Pinehurst Way NE between NE 92nd St and 15th Ave NE to extend the life of the roadway by 10 to 20 years. Along with resurfacing the asphalt for smoother travel, we will be making important infrastructure upgrades, such as: 

• Fixing the road base 
• Upgrading curb ramps to meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards 
• Improving storm water drainage systems 
• Sidewalk repairs 
• New and upgraded crosswalks 
• New protected bike lanes 
• New bus stop improvements 
• Upgrading traffic signal poles

Those curious what streets will be affected, the current project area starts at NE 92nd Street and Roosevelt Way NE and runs north along Roosevelt Way NE before continuing along Pinehurst Way NE and concluding at around NE 117th Street. 

Presently, Final Design and Pre-Construction occur in Summer and Fall 2026, with Construction scheduled for 2027.
